STARFISH
The Star of the Sea!
Have you ever seen a creature that looks like a star and lives in the ocean? Meet the amazing starfish! Even though it is called a “fish,” a starfish is not really a fish. It belongs to a group of sea animals called echinoderms, which have spiny skin and live only in the ocean.
Starfish come in many bright and beautiful colors like red, orange, yellow, and even blue! Most starfish have five arms, but some can have more. Their star shape makes them one of the most unique animals in the sea.
These fascinating creatures live in oceans all around the world. You can find them near the shore, in coral reefs, or deep down on the ocean floor. They move very slowly using tiny tube feet under their arms, which help them stick to surfaces and crawl along.
Starfish may look gentle, but they are clever hunters! They eat small sea animals like clams and oysters. Their way of eating is very unusual—they can push their stomach out of their body to digest food outside! Isn’t that surprising?
One of the most amazing things about starfish is their special power to regrow lost arms. If a starfish loses one of its arms, it can grow a new one over time. Some starfish can even grow a whole new body from just one arm!
Starfish also don’t have a brain like humans, but they can still sense light and find their way around using tiny eye spots on their arms.
Starfish are truly wonderful creatures that show us how magical life under the sea can be. Next time you visit a beach or see the ocean, imagine these beautiful star-shaped animals quietly moving along the sea floor!
